La Liga - Yellow cards: The proper way to think
Lets have a closer look at player bookings in La Liga.
The season is well on the way in all the winter leagues. Lets have a closer look at player bookings in La Liga.
Spotting the trends
Even though we are only ten rounds in, we can already get a good idea of which teams and players to keep an eye on:
At the top of the table (left hand column) the teams that stands out are Valladolid, Villareal and Espanyol. These teams have nearly twice as many yellow cards as the trio at the bottom (Atletico and Real Madrid, and Barcelona).
Possession
The reason sides like Barca and Real Madrid get the fewest bookings is because they own the ball whenever they play. Its the same with Manchester City in the Premier League.
More possession means less chasing, less tackling and ultimately less cards.
If you are hell bendt on betting on bookings when these sides play, my suggestion is that you keep the stakes small as the odds generally is stacked against you.
Players
Moving on to the players. Last seasons heros were - without question - the lads from Cadiz:
Alejo and Alcaraz who racked up an amazing 17 and 14 yellow cards respectively.
Unfortunately Cadiz got relegated, so both gentlemen are out of the question this season. Instead we'll keep an eye on the players with the most cards so far and plays for one of the bottom third sides.
That includes players like Rosa and Juric with Real VallaDildol, Abqar with Alaves, Rosier with Leganes, Vaya with Valencia and Lopez with Rayo Vallecano and Djene and Arambarri with Getafe.
